Anime Expo has announced that it will host Tokyo expatriate blogger and Mirai Fusion founder Danny Choo at the July 1-4 convention in Los Angeles.

Choo is best known for cosplaying in Tokyo as an Imperial Stormtrooper from the Star Wars films. In March, Choo revealed that he had set up the anime production studio Mirai Fusion. Later that month, Choo revealed the title of the anime that Mirai Fusion has been planning: Chinka (鎮火 or literally, "put out a fire"). The anime takes place in a mountain town plagued by the legendary arsonist Akaneko. A girl named Chinka with the superhuman ability to smell out fires appears and assists the local fire brigade to find the true identity of Akaneko.

Event organisers at Reed Exhibitions have comfirmed that New York Comic Con and New York Anime Festival will share the same date and location next year. The events, which will take place at the Jacob K. Javits Center in Midtown Manhattan on October 8-10, 2010, will feature separate guests and programming schedules, but share a common show floor and one ticket price. This means fans who purchase a ticket will have access to both events.

The 2010 announcement comes two weeks before the event returns to the Javits Center for a third time on September 25-27.

In its four years of existence, New York Comic Con has been mostly held in February, although it moved to April last year. Lance Fensterman, Vice President of the Reed Exhibitions Pop Culture Group, explained that the date move will better accommodate Reed's other major North American pop culture event, Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo. "We are launching the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2) in April 2010, and we have moved NYCC to a permanent October date, thus providing a spring and fall balance to these two key events which will remain in place as we move forward. Rather than create a

Anime Next 2009 Cosplay Gallery

You need to upgrade your Flash Player

Anime Next is one of the 10 largest anime cons in the USA, with just under 10,000 people in attendance. Its a New Jersey convention, that takes place in early to mid June. Having been the primary NY area convention for a few years, ANext is getting some competition from the NY Anime Festival for the last two years. Fortunately the two cons are spaced far enough apart that it is fairly easy to attend the both of them.

Otakon announces famous seiyuu, Kikuko Inoue will be at the con. Otakon is the largest east-coast anime convention in the USA, will take place in July, in Baltimore, MD.

Inoue is perhaps best known for portraying goddess Belldandy in the perennially-popular Oh My Goddess. Indeed, she is so identified with that character that later chapters of the manga adapted the character’s speaking style to Inoue’s. The role is quite similar to one of her earlier roles, that of older sister Kasume Tendou in Ranma ½. Inoue’s voice lends itself to reserved, mature, domestic, and regal characters. Her characters are frequently islands of calm and sanity amidst the rampant chaos. Other prominent roles have included Rune Venus in El-Hazard and Kazami Mizuho in Onegai Teacher. In both cases, she played a strong but compassionate leader. She’s also taken villainous turns, such as Alv in Kiddy Grade and Lust in Fullmetal Alchemist.
