Suzue Miuchi, the creator of shoujo romance epic Garasu no Kamen (Glass Mask), has acknowledged that the end of the series will come 'soon'. First released in 1976 and published in Hakusensha's Hana to Yume magazine, the story follows 13 year old Maya Kitajima, a talented young actress, and her competition with skilled rival Ayumi Himekawa, to attain the degree of acting proficiency and career success required to play the lead role of the legendary stage play "The Crimson Goddess" ("Kurenai Tennyo").

After 34 years, the series has printed 50 million copies, with volume 44 published towards the end of last month. Miuchi has only drawn five volumes within the last 16 years, however the last two volumes both came out this year and Miuchi restarted serialisation in Hakusensha's Bessatsu Hana to Yume magazine. Miuchi says that the lead characters Maya and Masumi have suddenly come to the forefront of her mind in the past one to two years. She adds that she feels that "the time has come to bring [this story] to an end soon."
