Earlier this year, the English version of this first installment of the four-film, big-screen re-imagining of the groundbreaking 1994 anime series "Neon Genesis Evangelion" started showing at select conventions and theaters on the east and west coasts and across Canada. However, new showings have been added to the movie's schedule, and a couple are a day trip away!

The Little Art Theater in Yellow Springs, OH will be showing the film next weekend, September 11-13. Showtimes will be at 11:00 pm Friday and 4:30 pm Saturday and Sunday. Ticket prices are $7.50 on Friday ($6.50 for children 12 and under and seniors) and $6.00 for all patrons the rest of the weekend. You can not advance purchase the tickets online.

Beginning Friday, September 18th, the film will begin a week-long engagement at the Emagine Novi theater in Detroit, MI. The times are not currently available, but there is an information page.

Release Schedule: US and Canada Nov 17, Australia Nov 19

While doing my morning browse of the news this morning I came across an interesting article on AnimeNews.Biz.
The article is talking about a certain ebay user placing the new Evangelion Docomo Foma phone from Sharp on ebay for sale at 1,500 as a starting bid. While there is a very clear screen cap on the site showing the ebay listing, I'm a skeptic and I decided to head over to ebay to see if I could find this phone there for myself. Surely fans of Evangelion would not go so far as to spend two entire paychecks... well two entire paychecks for me... on a cellphone. Even if it is designed after the Evangelion phones. So I searched, and low and behold there it was. Not the identical same listing as shown in that particular article but two seperate listings for the phone with the price over 1,400 US (1,500 CAD)

Now while I think the phone itself looks cool, it's missing the key parts to make the phone work overseas and even then you're not guaranteed to make the phone work with your provider. What good is that? Even still, I can't see myself ever paying more than

There are a couple of Japanese media reports that have apparently surfaced regarding the Rebuild of Evangelion series.

The First Report:
The additional Eva 1.0 revision for TV broadcast last Friday was declared a success by media analytics from the Video Research firm with Kanto Region audience share numbers hitting 12% for the night. 355,000 people sent the concurrent Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance to 5 billion yen ($52 million) in box office sales since its release. (sounds so much better in yen... five billion!)

The Second Report:
A news report has surfaced regarding the issue of people attending Eva screenings to record the film and subsequently uploading it to Chinese upload/P2P portals for download. The report has gone as far as providing instructions on how to spot the recorders. This is following the movie having been apparently leaked in Korea two days before it's scheduled premiere because of the uploads.

Kaiyodo is planning on releasing the Revoltech EVA Prototype Unit-00 Ver. 2.0 action figure from the anime movie Evangelion 2.0 You can (Not) Advance. The pre-order started today (July 7th) and will run to August 10th 2009, while the action figure will be released on October 27th 2009. The unfortunate part is this action figure, standing 140mm tall, is Japan exclusive - Much like the EVA Unit-00.

If you're in the civinity of Akihabara you might be interested in going over to the CURE maid cafe as it will be in it's new Evangelion mode until July 26th. The new mode is to go along with the new release of the Evangelion: 2.0 you can (Not) Advance movie.

Having recently held its "Fate/sta Night" event this cafe has come up with a new menu of Eva-influenced dishes and drinks along with appropriate decorations in the interior. This particular cafe, one of the earliest and best known progenitors of the maid café concept, is constantly remodeling itself to best fit a specific series so it's not surprising that they have now taken on a Eva appearance, however, this particular event will be longer than most for the cafe as it will be running until July 26th.

More information is available at the CURE official website.

There is a teaser at the end of the Evangelion:2.0 You Can (Not) Advance that reveals the next Evangelion film will be titled Evangelion Shin Gekijoban: Q quickening. (The full English title has yet to be given.) Khara anime studio are remaking Gainax's Neon Genesis Evangelion television anime series into four theatrical films directed by Hideaki Anno.

The "Q" or "Kyu" in the third film's title is a wordplay in Japanese; the first three films' subtitles are the names for the three classical movements (Jo-Ha-Kyū or Introduction-Exposition-Climax) of traditional Japanese music such as gagaku and Noh.
