In every show I take a strong liking to, without fail, the character I like the most dies really early on--Kamina in Gurren Lagann, Iwasa in Angel Beats, and now (SPOILER) Mami in Madoka. I suppose I'm really into the epic "mentor" character that inspires the unlikely hero to become something more. I also NEVER expect it when they die and my TV must have a guardian TV angel because it has yet to take a thrown object directly in the face during my fanboy fits. About 17 minutes into the latest episode of Puella Magi Madoka Magica I KNEW Mami was going to die. Prior knowledge failed to dampen the feeling of dread I felt as her head was brutally BITTEN OFF by a freakish clown monster thing straight out of Power Puff Girls.

As sad as I am to see MY character go (I called dibs, back off!) the wonderfully effective presentation and treatment of the event really helped to prove what I said about the series in our 2011 Winter Season roundup. Madoka is more than just a magic girl anime, it is already the magnum opus of the genre just three episodes in.

I started watching this series and stopped. didnt even get to episode 2. i dont even watch the show but from the first episode (if mami was in that one i cant remember) i loved mami. she was my favorite. and then they just kill her off in some stupid way? straight up bs.
