Friday, May 18, 2012 U.S. Anime Sales drop only 2% in Q1 2009 vs. Q1 2008

The Economy can be down but we just love our Anime. While not a citizen of the United States myself I can say that this honestly does not surprise me. The Anime sales have only dropped 2% in the first quarter of 2009 vs. the sales in the fist quarter of 2008. The ICv2 retail news source reports that FUNimation has over 40% of the market share in the first quarter, what the rest have... well who knows. It is actually interesting to see that the sales are not as down as much as they were in 2008 vs. 2007 (11%). In addition to ICv2's analysis of the American anime market, issue #66 of the ICv2 Insider's Guide also includes the company's lists of the top 25 manga properties, top 10 shōjo properties, top 10 shonen properties, and top 10 anime properties for spring of 2009. So I guess we just love our anime? Then again this was a lot of numbers, but some people find it interesting... Source: Anime News Network Article Comments
