Survial, Zombies, Panic!

Valve released their downloadable content for the their hit Left 4 Dead on both XB360 and PC the other day... and HOT DAMN.

There are two new campaigns for versus mode-- Death Toll and Dead Air, but what really takes the cake is the all new multiplayer survival mode. There are 12 new maps that came with the pack, 1 of them brand new, "Lighthouse". The other 11 maps are more-so like additions to the pre-existing areas.

Basically, you get locked down in an area, with your choice of weapons, explosives, some extra health packs, and you choose to start the event at your leisure (so set up your area wisely with propane tanks, etc.!). Once you hit the switch or throw the lever, be ready for the horde to come because they DO come, and like you've never seen before.

Hunters and Smokers will be showing up very frequently, and you'll see a new tank every 45 seconds or so. I didn't see too many Boomers, but they are of course there too, and the Zombies will treat you like a pinata or punching bag should you give them the chance, so you really need to be on your A game...

You will soon find out that even getting a Bronze Standard is not something you'll do on your first try. Medals are awarded by the length of time your team still has at least one person still alive and fighting. There is a timer at the top of your screen as well as a marker indicating what time you need to reach.

The Left 4 Dead survival pack is a lot of fun and best of all... IT'S FREE.

I know, right? Free content that doesn't suck on XBox Live seems almost impossible, a paradox even. But it's real and it's true and it is AMAZING. So if you've enjoyed playing L4D up to this point, or used to, you have a reason to keep playing or pick it back up. It's a good challenge, and is more frustrating than being the last person alive in the subway with a tank chasing you on Expert.
