The story opens with Soun Tendo telling his
daughters that a friend of his, having just returned from a 10
year training trip in China, is coming with his son. Soun promised to marry
this son off to one of his daughters in order to assure
the future of his school. Two of his daughters-Kasumi(18) and Nabiki (17)-don't
seem to care much one way or the other about this,
but the youngest Akane (16) is shocked that her father could do such
a thing to them. The guests do show up at the Tendo's
soon, but instead of |

and son who had been expeced, the guests seem to be a
red-haired girl and a giant panda. Even more shockingly, the girl says that
she is Ranma, the boy who Soun was telling his daughters about.
Soon it is revealed that while training in China, Ranma and his
father fell into a spring at the cursed training ground
of Jusenkyo (the curse of the springs is that upon
falling in you turn into whatever drowned there last). So
Ranma turns into a red haired young girl and his father Genma
turns into a panda. Hot water will reverse the effect, but
only until the "victim's" next contact with cold water (in other words: if
you're fixed, the fixing will reverse if you're hit with cold
water). Soun isn't overly distressed by this, deciding that it
isn't so bad, and tells Ranma that he can choose one of
his daughters to marry. Nabiki and Kasumi quickly volunteer Akane
for the role as she supposedly hates boys, and Ranma is half
girl." Akane decides that she is not about to marry
a pervert, and Ranma adds that he doesn't have time for this
(he needs a cure) and that he is "better built then Akane
to boot". Akane promptly beans him with a table, and thus their
relationship begins. This is truly one of the funniest anime
out there, and if you haven't seen it yet you are missing out
on a lot. |
